About Daniel Rowe
Senior Software Engineer at Team Engine. 4 years transforming from feature developer to infrastructure architect, specializing in integrations, AI/ML systems, and team enablement.
Team Engine
Over the last 4 years at Team Engine, I've transformed from a feature-focused developer into an infrastructure architect and team multiplier. This is the story of going from building UI components to architecting systems that enable the entire team.
The Journey: 2021 → 2025
2021-2022: Building Foundation
Joined Team Engine in July 2021 and quickly ramped up on full-stack development. Shipped features that enabled customer success to identify accounts that may churn, and allowed users access to their data which they used to created reports and metrics that inspired us to develop reporting features for all our users. But the work that changed everything was my first infrastructure project: using blue/green deployment to upgrade from the deprecated Amazon Linux 1 to Amazon Linux 2.
"This was THE foundational infrastructure project. I learned blue/green deployment from scratch, rearchitected AWS infrastructure, implemented sticky sessions, and achieved zero downtime. I also integrated Datadog APM during this upgrade still being used 3 years later."
- • Zero-downtime blue/green deployment
- • Unlocked modern stack: Datadog tracing, React/MUI/Sequelize upgrades
- • Created reusable recipe that made upgrading to Amazon Linux 2023 take weeks instead of months
2023-2024: Leading Initiatives
This was my breakthrough year. I championed and completed our TypeScript migration, removing 15,000+ lines of Flow over 4 quarters. I didn't just write code: I organized Fix-it Weeks where I coordinated with the product team to have 2 weeks at the end of the year where the engineering team could use their time to improve the codebase, educated the team through presentations, and encouraged the engineering team to share knowledge through talks on tech or their recent .
- • TypeScript Migration: 15,000+ lines of Flow.js from Q1-Q4 2023 using strangler pattern to keep shipping
- • First AI Features: OpenAI integration with streaming responses, enabling multilingual messaging
- • WhatsApp Integration: Created a new messaging channel for customers unlocking thousands of applicants
- • Became go-to expert for customer onboarding, enabled international markets, revenue-generating features
2024-2025: Architecting Systems
Increasing my infrastructure growth and AI focus with AWS CDK infrastructure, agent broker with BullMQ, and parallelized test shards (2x faster CI/CD). But it wasn't just about growth, it was about building systems that enable the entire team.
- • AWS CDK Infrastructure as Code: Transforming our infrastructure into version-controlled and testable recipes
- • Centralized Logger: Created shared package to share utilities and logger across services
- • LLM Observability: Full instrumentation for all AI agents with Datadog LLM monitoring
- • Took full ownership of our infrastructure and compliance processes, passing our SOC 2 type 2 audit
Currently working toward Staff Software Engineer with focus on expanding sphere of influence and enabling the entire team.
